B&B & Guesthouses

A Bed and Breakfast is typically a small establishment that offers overnight and weekend accommodation that includes breakfast. So if you want to spoil yourself for the weekend then a B&B is an excellent choice. Typically a Bed and Breakfast will be part of a private home that has a small number of rooms available.

Campers & Camping

Camping grounds and caravan parks are convenient, affordable and offer many services to the traveller. These are very common in around Bamaga/NPA. These include power, toilets and showers, play areas and BBQ areas. Glamping is limited but what exists is amazing with a number of new facilities underway.

Houses (Homestay)

Homestays typically provide a middle-ground for tourists- they are more intimate than a hotel, but offer more of a formal setting than staying with friends and relatives. A homestay can offer the tourist with facilities that traditional types of accommodation may not be able to provide.

Cultural Stay

Cultural Stays are a relatively new concept that have been introduced in the region by Strait Experience to give tourists an unparalleled experience in the way in which communities in the Torres Strait Experience everyday life. It is similar to a normal homestay but we differentiate so people understand the uniqueness of this style of accommodation.

Hotels & Resorts

Places like Horn Island, Thursday Island and the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) have a wide range of comfortable three to four star hotels or small-scale resorts (also lodges). These aren’t as luxurious as the 5-star hotels but are still clean and comfortable. Most include a private bathroom and shower facility. Some have pool facilities.

Motel

Inside the region there isn’t a lot of difference between Motels and Hotels. The main difference is Motels may not have restaurants, food service and/or licensed premises. Most offer free Wi-fi. Motels are great for an overnight stay or a stay of a couple of nights.

Self-Contained

A number of the accommodation providers offer self contained accommodation which means you will have access to kitchen, laundry and toilet facilities throughout your stay.

Studio/Apartments

If you like privacy, having your own space and access to all the comforts of home then a fully-furnished apartment or house might be for you. These are ideal for singles, couples or families who like a home away from home.

Unique Properties

Unique properties include cruises, liveaboard experiences and other similar non-traditional accommodation types.
